It's the 31st Century, and science and technology have progressed to the point that the human race is approaching perfection: no war, no poverty, and no conflict.  With nothing to worry about, the human race seems destined to live forever in harmony; but what if the Earth were to come under attack?  At this point in time, people do not know how to cope with problems or conflicts, and have completely lost their survival instincts.  In response to this, the United Earth Government has created the Gain Ground system, a war simulator that would help humans rediscover these lost instincts.  After several terrible malfunctions, the creators have become prisoners in their own creation.  Now it's up to you and two courageous comrades to go into the Gain Ground system, rescue your fellow humans, and destroy the system.  You'll battle through different periods in history as you revive your survival instincts, and try to stay alive while doing so!

How to explain what playing gain ground is like? To start with it is viewed from a sort of top down view thing of Merc or Commando or if you havent played those think of very small toy looking men. Now the game is set inside a computer programme used totrain you to fight you have to either kill all enemies on the stage or get all ofyour men to an exit zone to complete the level and move on to the bext. You start of with 3 characters a guy with a rifle who can shoot far but cant get people on top of things, a lady who can only shoot a short distance but can throw grenades and a zulu warrior who can throw his spear. On the way you will see tiny little people flashing on the screen and picking these up can give you extra characters ranging from swords men who fire magic from there swords to people with lazer guns. When you first see the game the main thing that will hit you is how basic the graphics are not only do they suffer from the grainy megadrive syndrome but there so simple the nes could about handle them , the music is repetitve and at first kind of under whelming. Play a few levels though and it all just seems to click you get into the stratergy of how to get from level to level who to use to do what and you find the music is eating its way into your brain becomming more cathcy and you just forget about the graphics alltogther. I would highly recomend this game it plays so well and is so unlike most everything on the virtual console/megadrive. I would say get past the lower quality ofgraphics and you have an amazing game but then if your reading this you have a wii so i doubt your a graphics snob
